Woke up at the Belt Rd Holiday Park having had our first night all in the same room. Matthew wins the award for loudest snore (no surprises there!). We had breakfast and after exploring the surrounds headed off down to The Big Wave Cafe on the beach. The boys walked and Mika had an injury to his already sore foot. Rescue mission by Mike from the cafe and we settled in. Ruby and I had taken the fab car around and so had arrived in time for a very nice coffee for me and a drink for her.
I met Michelle and we had a chat about how the cafe came to be. Mike used to build luxury motorhomes and has always been into surfing. He had the idea while sitting on the beach at Piha. As we know things in Piha struggle for traction and so he moved the idea to New Plymouth and Piha is worse off for not keeping him there.
Imagine sitting on the beach in your retro armchair, supping the perfect coffee, watching the energetic souls pass you by at varying speed. The walkway is always happening and the dogs know that they can score a biscuit and liquid refreshment at The Big Wave.
We spent a fair amount of time getting the low down for the book and eating some high quality pizza. It's amazing the fantastic food that comes out of such a small place. While we were working the kids managed a fair looking dam on the beach/river that is just in front of the cafe, couldn't really ask for more.
It came time to leave and we went back to the Park. Ruby had a small dose of TV as she still wasn't feeling fantastic and the boys went with Matthew to the internet cafe. Then Doctor for ruby and boys to the Aquatic Centre. The slides there are unbelieveably fast according to the reports I heard and it was the boys highlight of the day.
Meanwhile at the doctor Ruby and I were making friends with the receptionist and nurse. Lovely women, great chat. The doctor was a little more bristly, and I was left loving our regular doctor more than I already do. Upshot was that Ruby has asthma that needs monitoring. Will do.
After a slap up meal back at the Belt Rd Holiday Park we settled in for another night of close and loving family sleeping. Night night.
